Mental Health Professionals Australia (“we”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through the Mental Health Professionals Australia website and directory service, in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Information we collect
Mental Health Professionals Australia collects personal information in the following circumstances:
- Visitors: browsing data, search queries entered on the directory, and information submitted through our contact form (name, email address, message).
- Practitioners: when you create a profile, we collect your name, professional qualifications, AHPRA registration details, practice address, contact details, areas of specialisation, availability, and fee information.
- Booking clients: when you request an appointment through the directory, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and any information you provide in the booking request (which may include health information you choose to share).
We use Cloudflare Turnstile on some forms to detect automated submissions. Turnstile may collect your IP address and basic browser characteristics. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.
How we use your information
- To operate and improve the directory and booking service
- To display practitioner profiles to people searching for mental health support
- To facilitate appointment bookings between clients and practitioners
- To respond to contact and support enquiries
- To send practitioners service-related notifications (e.g. new booking requests)
- To comply with our legal and regulatory obligations
We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not use it for unsolicited marketing without your consent.
Health information
Some information collected through the booking process may constitute sensitive health information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. We handle such information with additional care: we collect it only where necessary, store it securely, and do not disclose it except to the practitioner with whom you are making a booking, or as required by law.
Disclosure to third parties
Mental Health Professionals Australia may disclose your personal information to:
- Practitioners listed on the directory, to the extent required to facilitate a booking you have initiated
- Cloud infrastructure and software providers who process data on our behalf under data-processing agreements (e.g. database hosting, email delivery)

Retention
We retain practitioner profile information for as long as your account is active. Booking records are retained for seven years to meet record-keeping obligations applicable to healthcare services under Australian law. Contact-form submissions are retained only as long as needed to resolve your enquiry.
You may request deletion of your personal information at any time using the contact details below. Where a legal retention obligation applies we may need to retain certain records even after a deletion request, and will advise you accordingly.
Security
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. All data is transmitted over HTTPS, and personal data is stored in encrypted databases hosted within Australia.
Cookies and analytics
This directory uses session and authentication cookies that are strictly necessary for the service to function. We may use analytics to understand aggregate usage patterns (e.g. which search filters are most used). We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
